Since 2010, we have been working on the demonstration experiments of environmental load reduction and business continuity during the disaster to become the world class eco container terminal, in cooperation with the Kyushu Regional Development Bureau of MLIT(the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism) and Hakata Port and Harbor Bureau, Fukuoka City.

The contents of the experiments are electrification or hybridization of cargo handling equipments of the port which emit a large amount of carbon dioxides and development of anti-seismic type of large-sized cargo equipments to keep the terminal operation in case of an earthquake.

These approaches were highly regarded globally and Hakata Port received a gold prize of the IAPH Port Environment Award at the IAPH(The International Association of Ports and Harbors) World Ports Conference which was held in Los Angels on May 9th.

At Hakata Port we will continue to study in such area as improvement of cargo facilities and operations to realize even more efficient container terminal and would like to contribute to the local community.

On February 5th, 5 trainees from Myanmar came to visit Hakata Port Container Terminal to learn about port operation and management.

The trainees are working at Civil Engineering Department and Mechanical Engineering Department at Myanmar Port Authority and they were asking many questions especially about electric RTGs and architectural construction of container yard during the terminal tour.

We heard that these days Myanmar is focusing on port development. We hope that we could contribute to Myanmars port operation and management through this training at Hakata Port Container Terminal.
